Whiskers is a pet Rat found in Village of Smokestead on an upper platform reached by a ramp. He is found next to an Engineer who asks him a number of technical questions.

"Iron ore becomes pig iron, wrought iron, cast iron, and finally steel."
"Two tons of ore, one each of distilled coal and limestone."
"It's gonna take a blast furnace bigger even than the one we've got, my friend."
"Air consumption could be a problem, Whiskers."
"What if we blew air through the molten iron, Whiskers? What do you think of that idea?"
"Whiskers, I need a flash of inspiration."
