Why also sold for more than the cost of crafting these?

Why is it that the Gift of Research - which can be crafted in the Mystic Forge using 500 Hydrocatalytic Reagents, 250 Thermocatalytic Reagents and 250 exotic Essences of Luck - can also be purchased from two vendors for these exact ingredients plus either 5 or 10 Globs of Ectoplasm? This doesn't make sense to me - what am I missing?

Lyhr offers every gift required for Obsidian Armor, and Ward Crafter Lucirae offers every gift required for Klobjarne Geirr. The added ecto cost is an arbitrary convenience fee. For the gifts requiring crafting disciplines it makes sense, as leveling those are an investment. Then it's presumably just set for the others as consistency among the vendor's offers (...until Lucirae offers some for +1ecto and +6ecto instead). I would chalk this up to providing a service to those who have more ecto than time, and wants to get everything from the vendor instead of going back and forth. --Hazasoul (talk) 14:12, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
