“Some items, like Essence of Luck, give a magic find bonus. This attribute increases the chance for every character on your account to find high-quality loot on defeated foes.

Magic Find is both an account bonus and a character attribute that increases the chance to receive higher-quality loot. The maximum amount is capped at 750%.[1]
Affected loot
- Direct drops from defeated enemies.[2][3][verification requested]
- Specific containers received from reward tracks, generally called "Loot box" or "cache", which simulate loot drops from the named NPC.[4][5]
- Containers specifically mentioned to be affected by it, such as:
- Caches and loot boxes from Heart of Thorns content.
- Various Lucky Envelopes and Lucky Red Bags during Lunar New Year.
- Gnashblade Dragon Coffer and Gnashblade Zephyrite Supply Box from Black Lion Chests.
- Lost Bandit Chests in the Silverwastes (mentioned in
Perseverance).[verification requested]
Unaffected
No other rewards are affected: Containers (including champion loot bags), chests, Mystic Forge, meta events (including World boss events), bonus chests, or any other sources than mentioned above.

Maximizing Magic Find
The following effects can be combined to help maximize magic find. This list does not include account-based, map-specific, or seasonal bonuses.
Static bonuses
Once earned or equipped, these bonuses are always applied.
- Account bonuses
- Luck increases Magic Find by 1% for each completed bar, up to 300%.
- Achievement point rewards increase Magic Find by 1% starting at 500 AP and at each increment of 2,500 AP thereafter; an additional 1% is awarded for every 5,000 AP. The effective maximum is capped by the number of AP available in the game, which slowly increases over time. A maximum of 36% was obtainable 13 years and 335 days after the game launched.
Guild Item Research provides up to 10% Magic Find depending on a guild's upgrades. It is obtained by selecting Guild Magic Find from Nathan the Bartender. The effect applied to a character remains the same regardless of subsequent guild status.- Characters can equip one +20% enrichment on an ascended or legendary amulet. Note that this is ignored in PvP.

These bonuses are only available during festivals, bonus weeks, or other special events.

Notes
- A Q&A session with Isaiah Cartwright revealed the way Magic Find works: "Every time you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones."
- According to player research before the 750% cap was introduced: "It apparently takes 1000% Magic Find to double your chances of receiving a higher tier item. Not 100% as may be expected and implied by prior quotes on the subject. It also implies that at 1000% you should stop getting junk as drops."
- The Magic Find cap was introduced in the February 28, 2022 game update.
