Vault Dispatch: Castoran Coral Greetings, Wayfinder. I trust your time at sea hasn't treated you too poorly. The Astral Ward's expedition to Castora has resulted in a large influx of recordkeeping for the Wizard's Vault and new issues to investigate. A developing situation is beyond the means of our scouts, so I would like to recruit your capable hands to the task. Ward and Tyrian Alliance scholars believe the Castoran coral reefs are a vital part of the local arcane ecosystem, potentially cultivated by the island's original residents. However, the latest reporting suggests local Inquest experiments may be targeting this critical system. This field operation has been filed under the name "Castoran Coral." In return for your assistance, you will be eligible to take ownership of any recovered artifacts or magic at or below the level we classify as "locally threatening." Please rendezvous with Field Archivist Cierle in Shipwreck Strand at your earliest opportunity if you wish to participate.—Vivienne |
- Dialogue with Field Archivist Ciercle
- Hello, Wayfinder. What can this humble archivist help you with?
- (Step 2 initial dialogue)
- I'm here to investigate the Castoran Coral.
- Your help would be much appreciated. Technically, I'm afraid I'm meant to be on vacation. Inquest activity has spiked around the undersea coral, and in its wake, the reefs are beginning to wither.
- How can I help?
- Start with some triangulation. Help the alliance across the island, and our vault scouts will collate the information to track down an originating source for this disturbance.
- Okay, I'll see what I can dig up.
- Good-bye.
- Good-bye.
- (Step 4 after completing Castoran Coral: Inquest Investigations)
- I've raised and solved some trouble. How's the triangulation?
- As ever, your talents are appreciated. We've been able to establish the pattern of decay and determine the general area where it began.
- The origin point of the withering effect?
- Correct. I suspect the Inquest tampered with something best left alone. I'll mark the spot on your map—give it a thorough check with your skimmer's keen sense.
- If I find anything, I'll follow up on it. Wish me luck.
- Good-bye.
- Good-bye.
- What's the story with these reefs? (same as subsequent dialogue below)
- You seem pretty relaxed. (same as subsequent dialogue below)
- Good-bye.
- Step 5 Ruined Reef
- (This reef has been torn apart by excavation lasers. It appears the Inquest must have carved out a central node of the coral.)
- I should be able to follow their trail with aetherlocation.
- I'll return to pursue these thieves later.
- Step 6 at the final location
- Dialogue changes every hour, see: Laboratory CAS-U-5 (object)
- (Near an arcane portal, a dull intercom gurgles static.)
- (Press the key for access.)
- Automated Security Quiz. Synergetic Cycle. Question One: 2B OR NOT 2B?
- Obviously 2B. (same as below)
- Obviously not 2B. (same as below)
- Obviously, that is the question. (same as below)
- Wait, is that the question?
- ERROR! Automated Answer Evaluator ERROR! Immediately review your security response with a Security Response Supervisor in the main lobby. Be prepared to accept lethal correction.
- Fair enough, if you'll let me through. (instance pop-up)
- I'm rethinking this plan.
- I am not ready for a quiz.
- I have no time for ominous static.
- Inside Laboratory CAS-U-5 instance
- Only included objects marked with
icon here, for other objects, see: Laboratory CAS-U-5#Objects
- Automated Information Desk Entity: Welcome! How may the AUTOMATED INFORMATION DESK ENTITY assist you?
- Hello, A.I.D.E. I'm here to have my security answer reviewed.
- Excellent. Wait here for a PERSONNEL REVIEWER, or insert yourself into an adjacent body bag and await automated body disposal.
- Of course.
- Hello, A.I.D.E. I'm here to celebrate. As a guest. (Becomes available after interacting with CAS-U-5 Lab Announcements)
- You are attending Arch Researcher Tunsi's birthday party? Wonderful. Leave any gifts in the storage locker, and use GUEST RESEARCHER PASSWORD: MIND-PARTY at the security gate.
- Yes, MIND-PARTY. I'll make a note of that.
- I'm not actually here for the celebration.
- Hello, A.I.D.E. I'm here to learn more about this lab's ongoing research.
- Absolutely! After the wreck of the vessel REDACTED, Arch Researcher Tunsi discovered REDACTED has REDACTED properties. This lab was established to REDACTED the REDACTED to enable REDACTED.
- Very informative, thank you.
- Hello, A.I.D.E. I'd love to learn more about this lab's concealment.
- Absolutely! The holographic rock you passed upon entry was a painstaking recreation of REDACTED's inventions. Applying her techniques underwater was challenging, as was hydroproofing the entry.
- Very informative, thank you.
- Oh, no thank you.
- Automated Entry Gate: Welcome to CAS-U-5. Scan your staff badge below.
- No. I must speak with your supervisor. (The Veteran SERVs become hostile)
- I'm here for Arch Researcher Tunsi's birthday party. Guest researcher password: MIND-PARTY. (After selecting the associated dialogue option with Automated Information Desk Entity)
- I must have misplaced it. Let me go find one! I mean...mine.
- Inquest Krewe Analysis Toolkit: (This is a set of powerful and precise research tools. It could come in handy.)
- (Borrow the analysis toolkit. Good research benefits from good tools.)
- I already have all the tools I need.
- Coral Heart Enclosure: (The coral heart's surface is dotted with wounds. It seems to have broken its enclosure from within.)
- All right, let's get you back home. (step 7 completed)
- This seems unsafe.
- Step 8 Return to Field Archivist Ciercle
- Hello, Wayfinder. What can this humble archivist help you with?
- The Inquest had excavated some sort of core from the reef. I got it back.
- It looks to be in poor condition... I doubt we can simply return it to its original reef and hope for the best.
- Any ideas for healing it?
- I believe these reefs are an organic component of the island's magical defense network. If you return this node to the heart of that network, it could be reinvigorated.
- I've seen a font of seer energy deeper inland. Let's give it a try.
- Good-bye.
- Good-bye.
- What's the story with these reefs? (same as subsequent dialogue below)
- You seem pretty relaxed. (same as subsequent dialogue below)
- Good-bye.
- Step 9 renew the wounded coral heart by cleansing it in the seneschal's font
- The Seneschal's Font: (Calm waters gradually flow from the seneschal's font)
- I wash the wounded coral heart in the seneschal's font.
- (The coral heart glows slightly. It appears calmed and renewed.)
- I'll take this coral back to the reef.
- I wash my face in the seneschal's font.
- Move on.
- Step 10 restore the ruined reef
- Ruined Reef: (This reef has been torn apart by excavation lasers. It appears the Inquest must have carved out a central node of the coral.)
- Let's return the coral to its home.
- Move on.
- Coral Weapon Growths: (As fresh coral blooms along the reef, two shapes have detached and float beside it. You feel a wave of gratitude and are certain that these weapons were grown for you.)
- Collect the Coralheart Sword and Coralheart Staff. (Grants the Coralheart Stake and Coralheart Pillar)
- I'm not ready for such deadly gifts.
- Step 11 Return to Field Archivist Ciercle
- Hello, Wayfinder. What can this humble archivist help you with?
- I renewed the coral heart and returned it home. It left me with these.
- Well done! My colleagues have already reported evidence of healing. Vivienne has classified the organic network as a guarded danger, but your items seem inert... I'll amend their classification.
- I'm just glad we were able to stop the Inquest before this got out of control.
- Good-bye.
- Good-bye.
- What's the story with these reefs? (same as subsequent dialogue below)
- The scientists at the facility I uncovered met a grisly fate from this. (same as subsequent dialogue below)
- You seem pretty relaxed. (same as subsequent dialogue below)
- Good-bye.
- Field Archivist Ciercle subsequent dialogue
- Hello, Wayfinder. What can this humble archivist help you with?
- What's the story with these reefs?
- According to our initial findings, a subspecies of coral here in Castora has remarkable magical emanations. It may even be a contributor to the island's secrecy; a living warding spell, if you will.
- I had another question.
- Fascinating; let's hope we can keep it protected in turn.
- The scientists at the facility I uncovered met a grisly fate from this.
- The Inquest's haste, ambition, and lack of deeper wisdom seemed to leave them unprepared for predictable consequences. Preventing such misuse of relics is at the heart of the Wizard's Vault.
- I had another question.
- They certainly can't be allowed to weaponize this.
- You seem pretty relaxed.
- Well, Castora has been a bit "all hands on deck," so I was recalled from time off. Still, I have to set a good example by not overworking. So I am projecting relaxation in between information analysis.
- I had another question.
- Well, let's get this crisis resolved and get back to vacation.
- Good-bye.
