During the story step "Catch a fish for Aurene." in Outreach, if no bait is equipped.
Interacting with Rental Fishing Gear in Lowland Shore or Shipwreck Strand, if no bait is equipped.
- Replenished by fishing in Rare Fish (replaces drop) or Open Water (in addition to drop) while affected by Rental Fishing Equipment Timer.

Automatically equipped when acquired.
- Any already in your inventory will also be equipped, effectively increasing the stack's size by 1.
The temporary Rental Fishing Gear during Lowland Shore Fishing Tournament (80) will not give another if you already have one in your inventory.
Multiple can be acquired from the static Rental Fishing Gear in Tideland Outlet by repeatedly interacting, stowing the fishing rod, and unequipping the bait.
