...I have decided to leave my diary behind. Maybe someone will find it in years to come and know that a family once lived here. Just a regular family. Two sisters, and parents who loved them more than the world. They tried so hard to protect us from the dire truth as it crept closer daily. But we always knew—of course we pretended we didn't. And it broke our hearts to watch them softly crying together late on so many nights, thinking we were sound asleep. Of course, what is a child's place if it isn't at the top of the landing, eavesdropping.
May the gods protect us tomorrow on our journey north, and keep us together. Always.
