Acquisition

Primary article: Knight of the Thorn

Progress the The Sword Regrown instance of the Knight of the Thorn.
As the instance host, choose your desired weapon by speaking to the appropriate NPC after defeating Remnant of a Hero.
As a party member, you instead receive a Regrown Caladbolg, which contains a choice of Caladbolg weapons.

The following steps are to acquire an extra ascended weapon on a different character.

After completing Knight of the Thorn once on a character.
Craft a Vision Crystal, Spiritwood Scion, and Orb of Natural Essence.
Complete the Heart of Thorns story to receive Broken Caladbolg and replay Knight of the Thorn on a different character.

After earning the Knight of the Thorn title.
Speak to Ridhais in the home instance on the character who completed the story.
Ridhais allows a character that built the weapon to change it into a different form in exchange for 1,000 Unbound Magic. This allows changing both the form and the prefixes. She can be found in the character's Home Instance or Homestead.
- After completing the Knight of the Thorn achievement, Ridhais will allow you to trade in your current Caladbolg for dagger, scepter, sword, shield or greatsword forms. Use the first tab of the vendor panel to choose Regrown Caladbolg that satisfies the cost based on which version of Caladbolg you currently own. Any Regrown Caladbolg will work. Subsequently, when you double-click on Regrown Caladbolg in your inventory, you will be offered a selection of Caladbolg forms to choose from.
- After completing the Forms of the Thorn achievement, Ridhais will allow you to trade in your current Caladbolg for Caladbolg Thea (staff) and Caladbolg Urtica (spear) forms. Access to the achievement requires Janthir Wilds.

Ridhais also offers skin version of the Caladbolg weapons after completing the achievements.
Completing Sword Taxonomy rewards the Caladbolg Origin (greatsword skin).
