Toxic Spores is an effect applied by standing inside the Tunnel of Respite. While this effect is present on the players, they will take constant heavy damage and have reduced healing ability. Standing in Thicket Waters with the Forsaken Thicket Waters mastery and receiving the Healing Cleanse effect will remove this effect from players.
