The origins of the Seven Reapers remain unknown except that they were [[Grenth]]'s mortal companions who helped him defeat [[Dhuum]]. Grenth rewarded them for their help by elevating them to become his [[avatar]]s who would govern specific regions of the [[Underworld]] in Grenth's name. Following Grenth's ascension into [[Six Human Gods|godhood]], the Reapers did their best to keep Dhuum imprisoned. However, the former God of Death successfully broke out every now and then, forcing the Reapers to ask for the assistance of mortal [[Hero (NPC)|heroes]] at least once to [[gww:The Nightman Cometh|reseal Dhuum]].

The [[Cathedral of Silence]], also known as the Shrine of the Reapers, was the first temple of Grenth ever built in [[Ruins of Orr|Orr]] and held special significance to the Reapers, particularly the [[Reaper of the Ice Wastes]], the most faithful of the Seven.<ref name="cathedralofsilence" />

In 1325 <small>[[Mouvelian calendar|AE]]</small>, an expedition headed by [[Pact Marshal|Marshal]] [[Trahearne]] and the [[Pact Commander]] [[Cathedral of Silence (story)|entered]] the Cathedral of Silence to seek answers that might reveal the location of the [[The Artesian Waters|source of Orr]] which needed to be cleansed to begin the restoration of Orr from the [[Elder Dragon]] [[Zhaitan]]'s [[Dragon energy|corruption]]. With the mystical knowledge of [[Priestess Rhie]] and a [[VOED|device]] designed by [[Pokka]], the group was able to peform an ancient rite that Orrians had used to seek aid from the Reapers.

[[Avatar of Grenth|One weakened Reaper]] answered the call and was surprised to see Grenth's priestess among those who had summoned him. In exchange for information, the Reaper demanded the group to slay the [[Risen Keeper of the Shrine]] in Grenth's name in order to return the soul which Zhaitan had trapped back to Grenth's fold. After the group had carried out the task, the Reaper revealed that the source they sought lay at the Artesian Waters. Upon hearing that the group would do their utmost to liberate Orr, the Reaper vanished but not before stating that he would be with them in every swing of their enemies' blades.

After Dhuum had broken free from his bindings once more, he was able to repel the Reapers from the Hall of Judgment, redirect the [[River of Souls]] to him to regain his strength for an eventual invasion of [[Tyria (world)|Tyria]], and corrupted many of Grenth's servants in the [[Hall of Chains]] into his army.<ref>[[Desmina#Dialogue|Desmina]]</ref><ref>[[Priestess Corpse]]</ref> The weakened Reapers were unable to confront the fallen god until [[Desmina]], Grenth's first priestess who was aided by mortal raiders whom she had summoned to her side, successfully defeated Dhuum's servants who were guarding [[Statues of Grenth]] warding Dhuum's throne.

Once the path was opened, the Reapers joined in on the assault on the repurposed Hall of Judgment and began casting the ancient ritual which they had used to contain Dhuum before. Despite the Reapers' demise, the battle for Tyria turned in the raiders' favor when they assisted Desmina with continuing the ritual in the Reapers' place. Dhuum was defeated once more in the end, and his essence left the dark armor he had been inhabiting as he was sealed within a more powerful prison than the ones that had contained him before, this time seemingly for good.<ref>[[Scholar Glenna (Hall of Chains)#Dialogue|Scholar Glenna]]</ref>
