From Set 1301, the reward structure for this project will change. Instead of each contribution being valued at 2 gold sooner and 20 gems later, these two numbers will be combined into one 10 gold incentive. This might seem like a big increase, but this additional 8 gold currently converts to about 23 gems, leaving the purchasing power of one contribution roughly the same. (The rate is slightly more favourable if you were converting gems to gold.) I will be vigilant to ensure that this is not abused by low-effort contributions.

This change has come about due to my desire to correct a design flaw in this project since I started it in 2016: the growing accumulated gem total, which has an unredeemed balance that grows every year. Currently it's about sixty-two thousand gems, with half of that owing to people who contributed last in 2021 or earlier. Gradually, over the coming months and years, I hope to be able to start clearing this ledger. I initiated the request for this change, and I am very thankful for the ongoing support of Stéphane at ArenaNet.

Although ultimately this new system will mean less bookkeeping for me, there is going to be a period of double-bookkeeping for a while during the transition! And it might get a bit complicated. For those with gem totals outstanding when Set 1299 has been archived, I will continue to keep you on the old system, even for new contributions, until I can get you to a multiple of 400 gems, at which time I'll mail you gem codes to clear this balance. (If you'd like to take a different path, contact me separately and I'd be happy to accommodate.) And because it's always encouraging to me to see a list of the most prolific contributors, I will gradually add names to a new table that measures the overall number of contributions, not just contributions with gems unredeemed.

We're only weeks away from a new expansion, with a lot of new things to discover and document. I am intending to update with a new Set every day for the first 28 days after the launch of the expansion, so there'll be lots of opportunities to contribute.
