Janthir is a region located north of Kryta and west of the Far Shiverpeaks and Furious Stretch. The region is said to have once been inhabited by beings with the Gift of True Sight, though the name, culture, and appearance of this group is unknown. Durmand Priory scholars have been speculating whether the mursaat originated from Janthir although they have found no conclusive evidence for their hypothesis.
During the previous rise of the Elder Dragons millennia ago, a group of wandering kodan led by the Southward Claw, who had fled from the previous dragonrise of the Elder Dragon Jormag, settled on the Lowland Shore, becoming the ancestors of the lowland kodan who would move from place to place around the Janthir region.
The millennia-spanning war between mursaat and Seers ended on one of the northern isles of Janthir where the mursaat scored a decisive victory against the Seers. The mursaat built their new capital, Bava Nisos, on the site of the battle.

According to scholarly theories, the enigmatic inhabitants of the Isles of Janthir were associated with the Eye of Janthir although it is unknown if they were responsible for creating it. The Eye served as a magical construct that could be used to see a person's gifts for magical aptitude. It also possessed the power to defend itself, sustain the life of multiple beings and thus extend their lifespans as long as the construct itself remained active, as well as peer into the minds of its targets and use their weaknesses and regrets to break them down. In its presence, beings recognized with having the Gift of True Sight dormant in them could see otherwise invisible mursaat. The eyes of Janthir could receive messages from afar, and had the ability to show visions of specific locations and people if the person accessing it asked it such questions and touched the Eye afterwards.

After visiting Bava Nisos and becoming a faithful follower of the mursaat, Saul D'Alessio traveled to the Isles of Janthir to retrieve the Eye of Janthir. Since at least 1067 <small>AE</small>, the White Mantle, which Saul had founded, used the construct to identify "gifted" people whom they would sacrifice atop the Maguuma Bloodstone and other bloodstones on behalf of their mursaat masters. The White Mantle wrote down religious teachings into the Tablets of Janthir and wore Tokens of Janthir which they sometimes handed out. According to their beliefs, wearing the token would make the Unseen Ones, a name used for the mursaat, pay special attention to people wearing them and supposedly keep said people safe from certain threats. The White Mantle often associated themselves with Janthir, though the extent of such relation was unknown.
In 1329 <small>AE</small>, Rox mentioned that Minister Caudecus, who had revealed himself to be the latest Confessor of the White Mantle, appeared to have retreated to the Isles of Janthir with the Shining Blade agent Canach in pursuit before returning to Kryta to begin the Siege of Divinity's Reach. Shortly before the death of the Elder Dragon Soo-Won in 1335 <small>AE</small>, the Wizard's Court moved the levitating Amnytas from Janthir to the Horn of Maguuma. According to the journal of an Astral Ward member, the Maguuman coast had been deemed more peaceful than Janthir, explaining the reason for the relocation.

At some point, the Astral Ward wrote what were titled as recent reports on non-Kryptis activity near the Isle of Janthir.

During the Astral Ward's excursion to Nayos, the Pact Commander discovered that the Heart of the Obscure, an arcane artifact created by Waiting Sorrow of the Wizard's Court, could make a written language seemingly associated with Janthir legible.

Janthir Wilds
location
At one point the Janthir Bloodstone exploded, however the explosion was contained so it did not cause as much damage. However, changes began to be detected in the ecosystem due to the release of the titans that come from the Foundry of Failed Creations, even the Wayfinder and his companions discovered the refuge of these titans that were in Mount Balrior, when defeating Ura, he informed them that they came from a portal that was in Bava Nisos.

Geography and climate
Janthir is considerably big as a region. While its southernmost areas are practically viewed as part of Kryta, the deltas are considered a part of the isles due to their climate and flora. As a region, Janthir stretches from the southern deltas far to the north, running parallel to the northern Shiverpeaks and northern Woodland Cascades, as far as modern maps are concerned. The isles and Janthir Bay make up most of the occupied territory, with some coastal regions lining the mainland.

Janthir's southern mainland areas encompassing Lowland Shore contain lush coniferous and fungal forests towards Woodland Cascades in the east, while the western shoreline leads to tundra and taiga type of harsher steppe environment with less trees and dry vegetation as well as active geysers. Pines in particular fare exceptionally well in Janthir, growing into enormous sizes under the right conditions while these Lowland Pines' saplings provide sturdy wood for crafting. The regional speciality of Honey Flowers are abundant in both the lush and harsher areas of Janthir. Great elevation differences in the lowland area and water from Divinity's Falls pouring north from Kryta lead to several massive waterfalls on the lowland that divide into smaller waterfalls as the great currents flow into the northern bay from multiple junctures. The delta contains great mires which have been known to preserve centuries-old corpses identified as bog bodies and provide abundant peat.

In recent times the isles have faced rainfall and heavy thunderstorms particularly towards the north of the bay. Like in the lowland, the isles contain differences in elevation, one of the isles in particular having a massive mountain called Mount Balrior on it. The isles' once battered soil has seen the return of lush vegetation and underbrush in the past few centuries, leading to the growth of healthy forests. However, due to magical tampering and corrupting influence, certain areas on the isles have recently begun decaying into mires with rotting vegetation. Some areas on the isles have even become sulphuric like the Desolation of Elona and thus hostile to most life as the dangerous and scarcely researched phenomenon of Mistburn spreads steadily, infecting local flora and fauna. The isles are surrounded by many skerries and hidden, rocky reefs underneath the water, making the bay particularly dangerous to navigate.
Notes
* Added with the January 30, 2024 game update.
* At times the character is seated in western "crosslegged" style, and at times seated on the bench in "sukhasana" or "lotus" position. This is apparently random, but can be replicated with Sylvari or Asuran characters by activating the chair while completing a dodge roll (not with Vindicator or Mirage, who do not roll). When in sukhasana, the character does not look at the shrine guardian.
